Constable at home
Big challenges are ahead for Konst Mohd Rizal Mohamed as he is the person in charge of the first Community Police Post (CPP) here in Taman Bestari Indah.
The 27-year-old policeman will live and work with his seven-month pregnant wife Konst Masturi Bolhassan, 25, who is attached to the Pelangi Indah police station.
His main duties are to lead crime prevention efforts in the area and foster better ties with the local community.
“It is a challenge trying to start a family and being bestowed such a responsibility.
“I consider it an honour to be in charge of this CPP,” he said, adding that the people’s co-operation was vital for the success of CPP.
Mohd Rizal reports for duty at the post from 8am to 5pm and conducts joint patrols with members of the community at night.
“My wife will help out in taking calls or reports when I am not around at the post.
“We are still adjusting in balancing our professional and personal lives at CPP,” he said.
Meanwhile, Johor Mentri Besar Datuk Abdul Ghani Othman, who launched the programme, said some 138 police posts would be built at housing areas located in the Iskandar Malaysia development project.
“We hope it will be implemented statewide. We also expect to acquire 1,000 closed circuit television cameras (CCTVs) this year,” he said, adding that RM85.7mil was allocated for the CPP programme and CCTVs.
Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Musa Hassan said the effort implemented by the Iskandar Regional Development Authority and the police at housing estates in the economic region would be implemented nationwide.
He said the CPP was part of the community policing initiative in which a junior police personnel and his family would reside in a house provided as quarters and office in housing estates.
“The officer will be on 24-hour duty to monitor security in the residential area and receive reports.
“He will also be required to foster better ties with the community and enhance co-operation,” Musa said.
