Port of Tanjung Langsat pull investments from China



 Corporation committed more perlengkap Labur RM600j facilities 

PORT of Tanjung Langsat in Pasir Gudang, Johor will get one more foreign investors in the near future, this time a Chinese multinational companies involved in oil and gas activities.

Chief Executive of Johor Corporation (Corporation), Tan Sri Muhammad Ali Hashim, said the success of China in attracting foreign investment will further strengthen his plan to make a new port as a hub for oil and gas activities in the region.

"Currently, we receive many inquiries from foreign countries about the facilities and investment opportunities offered by the investment.

"We are currently negotiating with a Chinese multinational companies interested in making a sizeable investment, and believe it can be finalized soon," he said in an interview with The Star in Bangi, recently.

 Port with an area of 363.2 hectares was developed with a focus on the development of the petrochemical terminal and non-food and bulk liquid storage facilities.

. So far, the port is already attracting foreign investments amounting to RM4 billion, from France, South Korea, Spain and Germany.

. It also attracted a number of small and medium enterprises from Singapore who want to put their operations there.

Muhammad Ali said, to complement the wharf facilities and equipment at the port concerned, his commitment to increase investment of RM600 million. 

He said overall investment in ports is estimated at more than RM1 billion by 2012. 

Port of Tanjung Langsat developed in the southeast coast of Johor and is the busiest shipping lanes in the world with the natural sea port and industrial land, are one of the five zones in the reserved growth in Iskandar Malaysia.

To increase the viability of the region as a new growth area, Muhammad Ali said, efforts are being made to upgrade access to the area, including highway construction and the Senai-Desaru Desaru-Kuantan.

He said the state government was committed to helping enhance the capacity of Port of Tanjung Langsat, including deepen the bob to spend a total of RM200 million in the next two years.
